Collection: Sterling Silver Jewelry for Women

FAQs

How to tell if sterling silver is real?

Genuine sterling silver will have the marking “925” or “Sterling” inscribed on it. It should have some weight to it, unlike lightweight jewelry, which is often silver-plated. Real silver will develop a natural tarnish over time, which is not the case for plated jewelry.

Will sterling silver turn my skin green?

A well-manufactured sterling silver piece is not supposed to turn a user’s skin green. If this happens, it is a strong indication that the silver is not real or is mingled with an abundant amount of copper or other alloys, which lead to discoloration.

How to prevent sterling silver from tarnishing?

Store it in a dry area, preferably with anti-tarnishing strips or kept in separate pouches. Avoid exposure to lotion, perfume or cosmetics. Some tarnishing is expected but can be reversed with proper care.

Can I shower wearing sterling silver jewelry?

It is advisable to remove it before showering. Since soap can speed up tarnishing, dulling the jewelry’s finish over time. Though it would not damage the jewelry immediately but it would not be favorable for long-term preservation.

Is sterling silver good for people with metal allergies?

As long as it doesn’t contain nickel, sterling silver is hypoallergenic. At Balboa Gold, we use nickel-free alloys. However, if you have extreme metal allergies, we suggest you check with a physician about your silver allergies before wearing it.
